Thallus verrucose, whitish grey to yellowish white, epruinose, glossy. Soredia absent. Prothallus whitish grey. Apothecia sessile, 0.5–1.0 mm diam.; disc red-brown to grey-brown, epruinose; margin prominent, entire, verruculose. Cortex indistinct, inspersed with small crystals, 10–15 µm thick laterally and basally. Amphithecium with small and large crystals (melacarpella-type); small crystals rapidly dissolving in KOH; large crystals insoluble in KOH. Upper part of hypothecium hyaline; lower part reddish brown, K+ red to purple. Parathecium hyaline, c.15 µm thick, with small crystals. Epihymenium red-brown, with crystals; pigments and crystals soluble in KOH (chlarotera-type). Hymenium hyaline. Paraphyses simple to sparingly branched, not thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 10.5–13.5 × 6.5–7.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin (major), zeorinone (major), boryquinone (minor), chloroatranorin (minor), constipatic acid (minor), protoconstipatic acid (minor), usnic acid (minor) and traces of unknowns. | ||
An endemic species on the bark of various trees, including Acacia and Timonius, in dry-sclerophyll forest and Eucalyptus-dominated woodland and grassland in eastern Qld; occurs at elevations of 150–450 m. | ||
